ALBANY, N.Y. — Shooting incidents within 28 communities that participate in NY's Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative are down by 60% since 2021, according to Governor Kathy Hochul.
Governor Hochul says new statistics collected by the State Division of Criminal Justice Services show that out of the 28 police departments that participate in GIVE, 477 shooting incidents with injury were reported between January and November 2025, a 15% drop compared to the 558 incidents reported last year. Gun violence-related deaths also dropped from 116 to 87 within the same time period.
Buffalo, Amherst, Lackawanna, Jamestown and Niagara Falls Police Departments participate in the GIVE program.
