KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
New questions are being asked about the safety and security of a $275 million taxpayer-funded affordable housing project.
There have been five fires in the last five weeks at the Parade Parks Homes area next to the 18 th and Vine District. Advertisement
The most recent fire took place this past weekend.
The remaining residents moved out of the now abandoned property at the end of October.
“We've shared with the developers that the fires are unacceptable, that we need to make sure first that they're securing the property and then demolition,” said Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas.
In late October, Lucas was at the groundbreaking for the federal, state and local funded affordable housing project.
The plan is to build more than 1,000 affordable housing units.
