SAN ANTONIO — A body was found by a passerby on the southwest side of San Antonio Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

San Antonio police were called to the 6900 block of Quintana Road around 2:45 p.m. for a possible deceased person.

Authorities said a passerby was cutting across a large field when they found a body in an isolated area. They told officers they saw clothing under some rocks as they were passing by and went to pull it up and found the body. Police confirmed the victim was lodged inside an abandoned water well in an open field.

Police are unsure if the deceased person is a man or woman. The body is in an advanced stage of decomposition. The medical examiner is expected to perform an investigation into the cause of death.

According to SAPD, the is an ongoing investigation.
