ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Police are investigating after over 50 memorial plaques were taken from the Humane Society of Missouri’s (HSMO) Memorial Park overnight.

According to HSMO, 54 bronze memorial plaques, valued at over $15,000, were stolen from Carol Throop Memorial Park. The engraved plaques are placed as a way of memorializing people and their pets.

“This is devastating to us and to everyone who placed a plaque in Throop Park to honor a beloved four-legged or two-legged family member,” said Kathy Warnick, president of HSMO. “We hope that the individual who stole these plaques from our park will be found.”

HSMO states that a police report has been filed and is assessing the cost and timeline for replacing the plaques, while also notifying those whose memorials were taken.
