ALBUQUERQUE — Mayor Tim Keller became the first mayor in the city's history to win three consecutive terms after his victory in Tuesday's runoff election.
Keller had won 58% of the vote, ahead of challenger Darren White's 42%, according to unofficial election results posted by the New Mexico Secretary of State as of about 8 p.m.
Although there are still votes left to be counted, White had already conceded defeat, according to Albuquerque TV station KOB .
Keller and dozens of supporters were gathered in the lobby of the Clyde Hotel to watch the results Tuesday evening.
The runoff election caps off a mayoral race that grew increasingly contentious in recent months, with Keller and White divided sharply on public safety-related issues, namely crime and homelessness.
