Residents of the Shilliang Um area in South West Khasi Hills District have requested the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to establish a new Administrative Block in the Mawsaw region, citing difficulties in accessing essential administrative services due to the distance from the existing Block headquarters.

In a letter to the Chief Minister on Tuesday, the residents highlighted the demographic details of the region, including a population of 35,604 spread across 118 villages in 10 GS Circles.

They pointed out that the lack of an Administrative Block in the region has constrained timely delivery of government welfare schemes, development initiatives, education-related services, health assistance, revenue matters, and emergency support.
