Nitro's Shop with a Cop was held Friday as Nitro Police Department officers accompanied six local children to buy Christmas gifts in the Walmart in Nitro.
Each child was allowed to spend up to $500 on anything. Children left the store with items like LEGO sets, pajamas and Minecraft swords.
"I was speechless when I heard how much they allowed," said Samantha Pretty, mother of Elliott Gomez, 5, who participated in the program. "I'm working part time right now. It helps so much."
The NPD works with the Nitro Elementary School staff to determine which children to choose for the program.
