Councillors say "no" to elected deputy mayor proposal
The deputy mayor debate is dead.
Brantford city councillors have rejected a proposal to create an elected deputy mayor position in time for the next municipal election.

“Structural governance changes to government shouldn’t be reactionary, they shouldn’t come out of a moment or feeling,” Coun. Mandy Samwell said at a Tuesday city council committee-of-the-whole meeting. “They should come from long-term planning, community conversations and a very clear need and I don’t think we’re there yet.”
