CONWAY, S.C. (WBTV) - A school in South Carolina was targeted by an AI-generated phone threat on Tuesday, police said.
The call came in at Conway High School just after 10 a.m. on Dec. 9, and said a shooter was coming, according to police.
Conway police said there was no danger to students or staff, although the school was placed under a hold out of caution. Police said shortly after noon that the hold was lifted and everyone was safe.
Officers said an increased police presence continued at the school even after the hold was lifted.
About 12 hours later, a bomb threat was called in at the Target on Seaboard Street in Myrtle Beach. That caller allegedly claimed to have put bombs around the building and demanded money. That call, too, was found to have been false.
