COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The date has been set for the annual lighting of the menorah to mark Hanukkah at the South Carolina State House.
The lighting takes place on Monday at a ceremony on the State House grounds starting at 6 p.m.
“The holiday of Hanukkah underscores the fact that American culture has been enriched by the thriving ethnic cultures which contributed very much, each in its own way, to communal life, both materially and spiritually,” said Rabbi Levi Marrus of the Chabad of South Carolina.
The event will feature an array of state and community leaders, including Gov. Henry McMaster, Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickerman, state Rep. Beth Bernstein, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott and a special children’s choir from the Cutler Jewish Day School. There will be hot latkes and doughn
