PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Pitt County Animal Services is celebrating the holiday season by bringing back its “Home for the HOWLidays” fostering event, giving dogs and cats a break from shelter life while they search for permanent families.
The annual fostering program allows Pitt County residents to open their homes to shelter animals for a few weeks during the holidays. The goal is to provide pets with a peaceful environment away from the shelter, while potentially leading to permanent adoptions.
“‘Tis the season of giving. You’re giving a dog a break from here, and that’s so important,” said Ashley Case of Pitt County Animal Services.
Case said the temporary home environment often transforms animals who struggle in the shelter setting.
