OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - Governor Tony Evers announced Wednesday that more than $159 million is going to 29 municipalities across the state to ensure clean, safe drinking water for families.

Oshkosh city leaders say new federal dollars will help speed up efforts to remove old lead service lines across the city. City officials say it’s still a long road ahead to replace every lead pipeline throughout the city, but this latest round of federal funding will help cover those costs for homeowners, especially in older neighborhoods where lead lines are still common.

The city of Oshkosh received over $6 million for lead service line replacements. There are approximately 21,550 water service lines throughout the city of Oshkosh that are split into private and public services.
