TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. —

A habitual offender from Florida has been convicted of a deadly hit-and-run that happened in Transylvania County, North Carolina.

On the evening of Oct. 3, 2023, the Brevard Police Department and Transylvania County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call about a hit-and-run.

The 911 call reported that a pedestrian attempting to cross Hwy 280 in front of the Tidal Car Wash had been struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian, identified as Lee Waters, was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

When police arrived, they determined that the driver failed to stop or provide essential information about the collision.
