DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. — When the sun rose over Dawson Springs on Dec. 11, 2021, people who grew up in the town said it looked unrecognizable.

Homes surrounding Dawson Springs City Park were destroyed. Street signs were knocked down, and the park suffered damage.

Christmas decorations downtown and at homes were scattered across the city.

"We're still finding Christmas ornaments and Christmas lights," Elizabeth Robinson said.

Robinson, a Dawson Springs native, has worked in the school district for more than a decade and now serves as principal of the high school.

The night of Dec. 10 , she gathered her family and went down to their basement. When she came up and noticed her house was okay, she left for the side of town that suffered damage.
