JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) - A petition asking the city of Jackson to reevaluate its downtown parking requirements has collected more than 1,500 signatures as controversy grows over increased violation fines.
City officials recently announced parking violation fines are increasing from $7 to $28, with enforcement starting next year after new signs are installed.
The announcement sparked the petition , which was started last week and specifically prioritizes “the needs and welfare” of all Jackson residents.
Ricky Rakestraw, who comes to Jackson for work and to visit businesses, says the increased fines are a disservice to residents.
“As we all can see, we feel on a day-to-day basis, everything tends to go up besides our pay,” Rakestraw said. “So to hear those things, it’s just, I feel like
