Bhavna Joshi recounts the night she watched her world burn away -- her three sisters and her husband swallowed by smoke and fire inside Goa’s Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub.

“The entire incident still flashes before my eyes,” Bhavna told India Today TV at her home in Khajuri Khas, Delhi. She is one of the few survivors from her family, and an eyewitness to the chaos.

Bhavna said her husband, Vinod, noticed the flames before anyone else. The family had been seated at a table just in front of the dance floor, when pyrotechnics featured during a belly dance performance ignited the ceiling.

Vinod tried to raise the alarm, gesturing to the staff. “People looked up only after he signalled them,” she said, adding that the DJ tried to put out the fire with water from glass bottles, to no avail.
