They say if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. And it appears that’s what Disney has decided to do. It’s buying a $1 billion stake in OpenAI, in a major deal that will see it open its vault of characters to the generative AI video app Sora.

It means app users will be able to create their own fan videos featuring the likes of Mickey and Minnie Mouse and characters from Frozen, Toy Story and Star Wars.
