WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Don Phipps said the district will begin using its weapons detection systems every day on campus going forward after officials confirmed metal detectors were not in use on the day a 16-year-old student was fatally stabbed at North Forsyth High School.

From today and onward, Phipps said every detector the district has from traditional metal detectors to OpenGate units will be used everyday. Phipps also made it clear that not every school can use OpenGate daily because the district still rotates those systems between buildings.

"I've said it twice. I'll say it a third time," he said. " They [metal detectors] will be used every day in our schools."
