WAIPIO, Hawaii (Island News) – Honolulu Police Department (HPD) officers arrested a man after finding a rifle in his car in the Waipio area early Thursday morning.

According to police highlights, officers observed a suspicious vehicle that was parked with a 25-year-old man inside at approximately 12:14 a.m. Police reported that the man was asleep at the wheel when they went to check on his wellbeing.

As the officers checked on the man, they saw a rifle on the passenger side of his vehicle.

The 25-year-old man was later placed under arrest for Loaded Firearm at 12:25 a.m.

The man remains in police custody, pending investigation.

No injuries were reported and no other information has been provided at this time.
