The National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow warning at 1:30 a.m. on Friday valid from Saturday 1 p.m. until Sunday 1 p.m. for Jefferson and Lewis counties.

The weather service describes, "Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations 8 to 14 inches in the most persistent lake snows. Snowfall rates may reach 2 to 3 inches per hour in the most intense portion of the band Saturday night through Sunday morning."

"Travel will be very difficult with deep snow cover and roads and very poor visibility," explains the weather service. "Heavy snow will fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities."
