Residents in a few Northern California counties can now contest traffic tickets without appearing in court, thanks to a new online trial by declaration system.
The counties include Sacramento, Amador and Nevada.
This system allows individuals with certain tickets to submit a written statement and upload supporting documents online. A judge will review the materials and issue a ruling without requiring a court appearance.
The system is designed for people with "infraction violations," which are typically low-level offenses.
