CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Clarksville City Councilwoman will step down from her position to serve under Congressman Matt Van Epps.
Van Epps won the Congressional District 7 Special Election earlier this month and was sworn in a few days later.
Deanna McLaughlin, who serves Ward 2 on the Clarksville City Council, announced Friday that she would be resigning from the council to take a position serving as Van Epps’s deputy director in Washington DC.
“This decision was not made lightly,” McLaughlin said. “While my sincere intention was always to complete my current term, this new role presented an impactful chance to continue serving our community on a broader, regional, and federal scale — an opportunity I felt compelled to accept.”
