BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A false threat reported to police led to police briefly evacuating the area near the Ralph B. Draughon Library at Auburn University while they searched the area.

AU's Campus Safety team sent out a social media post after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to warn people to avoid the area near the library due to a "heavy police presence." At the time, no other details were given.

However, by 5:48 p.m., the university had announced that police had cleared the area and that there was no active threat to the community.

"Auburn Police immediately responded to a false report of a possible threat on campus," a statement from AU read. :Following a thorough search, authorities determined there was no threat to the Auburn University community."
