HARTFORD, Ala (WDHN) -- History was made in the small city of Hartford during Tuesday night's municipal elections.
Jeanna Brannon will be the first woman to serve as mayor of Hartford.
Brannon won the seat with 75% of the votes, beating out Wendel Nolan, the incumbent, who took home 100 votes (17%), and Johnnie Yoemans got 47 votes (8%).
She was born and raised in Hartford and moved away to practice law for 20 years before coming back home.
Her father was also the mayor of Hartford at one point, marking the first parent and child combo in city history.
"It was both an honor and a humbling experience to have the citizens come out and cast a vote for me," said Brannon. "We had a house full of friends come out and help us celebrate. It was just an amazing evening."
