Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell suggested a change of scenery might be good for quarterback Hendon Hooker after spending his first two NFL seasons with the Lions.
Just a few days after his comments — following the Lions’ preseason finale — Hooker was released from the organization and the Carolina Panthers made a move to become that change of scenery for the 2023 third-round draft selection.
A lackluster training camp and preseason saw Hooker lose out the battle for the backup quarterback spot in Detroit, totaling 22-of-40 passes for 187 yards with three interceptions, two lost fumbles and no touchdowns in four preseason games.
The Panthers signed Hooker to their practice squad after his release, seeing the opportunity to try and continue his development, despite having 2023 No. 1
