ERIE COUNTY, OHIO, Ohio — Three people are dead after two separate crashes on the Ohio Turnpike in Erie County on Sunday morning.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the first crash happened around 6:41 a.m. when a medium-duty truck heading east on the Turnpike struck a tow truck that was stopped on the shoulder of the highway with its hazard lights on.
The driver of the medium-duty truck, 31-year-old Anthony Jenson, of Indianapolis, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His passenger, Dantrail Reese, 32, also from Indianapolis, died of his injuries.
The tow truck driver was uninjured.
The second crash occurred just after 7:30 a.m. near the Frailey Road overpass in the traffic backup caused by the first crash when a car struck the rear of a semi.
