HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) -- An 8-year-old child died after drowning in a pool at a Hoover residence Saturday night.

According to the Hoover Police Department, Hoover Police and Fire were dispatched to a residence in the 2000 block of River Lake Drive in the Southlake subdivision at around 8 p.m. Saturday due to an 8-year-old male being found unresponsive in a pool.

The child was pulled from the pool, and lifesaving measures were attempted. The child was transported to Children's of Alabama by the Hoover Fire Department, where he was pronounced deceased.

The Shelby County Coroner's Office and detectives with the Hoover Police Department are investigating the cause of the drowning, but no foul play is suspected. The Hoover Police Department says the incident is being investigated as an acciden
