NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Independent candidate for Mayor of New York City Jim Walden, who attempted to rally others in the race to consolidate around one person to defeat Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, has dropped out of the race.

Since Mamdani's stunning Primary victory, Walden has steadfastly made the case that he, independent candidates Andrew Cuomo and Eric Adams, along with Republican Curtis Sliwa, must coalesce to defeat the 33-year-old Democratic Socialist Assemblyman.

He suggested polling in September should dictate who is best suited to challenge Mamdani head-on.

However, there was little buy-in to his plan, with only Cuomo seeming open to the idea. Walden himself struggled to gain traction in the polls.
