The parents of a child who took his own life are pressing the West Hartford school district to change their policy at William Hall High School.

Lukas Schreiber was a star athlete and the captain of the high school swim team. He was a rising senior when he was diagnosed with a severe depressive disorder, according to his mother, Heather Schreiber.

She said he was granted a 504 plan that provides accommodations for students with disabilities.

“The school was well aware of his mental struggles," she said.

Schreiber said Lukas was accused in two bullying cases outside of school and was set to be disciplined by the former school principal at a meeting during the summer last year.

She said she went to the meeting alone
