CLINTON COUNTY, Mich. — Ashley Monroe pleaded no contest to eight counts of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI), Causing Serious Injury and one count of second-degree murder after she crashed her car into a group of pedestrians in Clinton County back in 2024.

On a Saturday evening in May 2024, Monroe was driving on South Wacousta Road near Corrison Road in Watertown Township, according to court documents.

A group of pedestrians, later determined to be a family, was walking along the shoulder of the road when a car hit them. Police say Monroe then drove off.

Two people were declared dead at the scene: Johnathan Esch, 30, from Grand Haven and Daniel Harris, 42, from Grand Ledge. A total of 14 others were taken to hospitals for treatment, including eight children.
