For a vision that includes a sandy beach on the Welland Recreational Canal with paved parking, upgrades to Rotary Club of Welland Park could cost Rose City taxpayers $900,000.
A memo in last Friday’s online city council information package from municipal engineer Sherri-Marie Millar and transportation manager Ali Khan provided an update to councillors on proposed park changes.
Community services staff proposed upgrades to the Lincoln Street park during 2024 budget talks.
The focus was on paving its parking lot and designing a beach area based on a concept prepared by Adesso Design Inc.
The beach area was proposed near the boat launch.
Council approved an estimated $50,000 in design costs for the project, which, at the time, had an estimated construction cost of $650,000.
However
