An urn that holds cremated remains that was found on a running trail in Canton earlier this week has been identified and police are working to return the urn to its owner.

Police said the urn was found behind the Canton Department of Public Works, by the boat launch, around 8 a.m. on Thursday.

The police department originally said they could not open the urn because it was sealed shut.

On Saturday, police said they identified the urn that was found and are working to get it back to the family it belongs to.

It's unclear why the urn was left on the trail.
