ALTAVISTA, Va. (WDBJ) - A person was injured in a train crash Saturday, September 6, according to Altavista Police.

Altavista Police responded at 12:21 p.m. to a report of a vehicle-train collision at a railroad crossing at 1507 Main Street.

The driver of the 2025 gray Honda crossed the tracks as a southbound Norfolk Southern freight train was approaching, according to police. Police say the train struck the rear passenger side quarter panel of the vehicle.

The Honda driver sustained minor injuries but did not require transportation by emergency medical services, according to police.

No other injuries were reported, and no hazardous materials were involved.

Police say they remained on scene to assist with traffic control and conduct an initial investigation.
