NORMAN — It wasn’t pretty, but Oklahoma secured one of the most significant victories of the Brent Venables era on Saturday night.
No. 18 OU grinded its way to a 24-13 win over No. 15 Michigan in a blueblood battle before 84,107 inside Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Quarterback John Mateer completed 21-of-34 passes (62%) for 270 yards and one touchdown with one interception, and rushed 19 times for 72 yards and two additional scores.
Deion Burks was Mateer’s top target in the passing game again. The Inkster, Michigan native, playing with a chip on his shoulder since the Wolverines didn’t recruit him in high school, hauled in seven catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.
