Emergency services have made a grim discovery after a vehicle was extinguished in New South Wales' Blue Mountains, with a body located inside the vehicle.

First responders were called to Bells Line of Road in Mount Wilson area about 10.30am on Sunday following reports of a vehicle fire.

A body was found inside the vehicle after the fire was extinguished, a NSW Police statement said.

A crime scene has since been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze has been launched, with Homicide Squad having been notified.

Police have said the identify of the deceased person and the cause of the fire are both not yet known.

Both lanes of Bells Line of Road are currently closed between Mt Tomah Road and Darling Causeway, and drivers have been advised to avoid
