WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Sometimes institutions become so meaningful to a community, it's difficult or impossible to imagine the neighborhood without them.

In West Hartford , The Crown Market has that kind of value for the Jewish community. Not just in Connecticut, but store management says shoppers come to buy their Kosher products from out of state.

“Just a place you can go to get the best, fresh, quality food," The Crown Market catering department manager Matty said. “All over the tri-state area, it’s really nice to be able to provide Kosher food and meals for all different types of Jewish people.”

The store opened in 1940 and celebrated 85 years on Sunday with a party and free food. A testament to its popularity, all supplies ran out before the two-hour mark.
