Japanese restaurant chain Okome has launched an appeal after Glasgow City Council rejected its bid to open in Partick .

Planners ruled the firm’s application to convert an empty shop on Dumbarton Road would result in the “unacceptable loss” of a retail unit.

They also believe it would cause increased noise, activity and cooking fumes to the “detriment” of neighbours.

But Okome is urging councillors, who will consider the appeal tomorrow (Tuesday), to overturn the ruling. It argues the plan will “support local investment and maintain Dumbarton Road as a desirable place to visit”.

The appeals adds the plan from an “experienced restaurant operator”, with five branches within Glasgow and Paisley, would “reduce vacancy levels” and “ensure permanent use” for the former Superdrug store.
