CARY, N.C. (WNCN) -- A man was found dead behind a Cary shopping center on Monday afternoon by landscapers working in the area, officials said.

The incident was reported around 1:50 p.m. behind the Saltbox Village shopping center, which is at the corner of High Meadow Drive and Kildaire Farm Road, according to Carolyn Roman, a Town of Cary spokeswoman.

Roman said the man appeared to be homeless and that it "definitely appears to be an untimely death."

She said the body was found behind the shopping center near High Meadow Drive. Cary police are at the scene conducting an investigation, Roman said.

Officers will be contacting the Wake County City-County Bureau of Identification and the North Carolina Medical Examiners' Office.

No other information was released.
