A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Monday at 4:08 p.m. for strong thunderstorms until 4:30 p.m. for Lane County Cascade Foothills and Cascades of Lane County.
The storms are packing penny-sized hail (0.75 inches) and wind gusts of up to 40 mph.
"At 4:07 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm 7 miles south of Hills Creek Reservoir, or 12 miles south of Oakridge. This thunderstorm was nearly stationary," explains the weather service. "Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible."
The alert is for Oakridge, Hills Creek Reservoir and Westfir. In Oregon this includes State Highway 58 between mile markers 29 and 41.
