The Austin High School community is coming together after one of their own was seriously hurt in a tree cutting accident over the weekend.
According to a GoFundMe page set up to help cover medical bills and travel expenses, Austin High School art teacher Jesse Smith was cutting down a tree in his backyard when he was knocked off a ladder.
He was severely injured in the fall, breaking his collarbone, ten of his ribs, and lacerating one of his lungs. Smith was flown from his home to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, where he is currently being treated.
Eventually he was taken off sedation and had a breathing tube removed.
