FLAT ROCK, N.C. (WSPA) - St. John in the Wilderness has opened a trail system, sharing its wooded acreage with hikers and nature lovers.
The church held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of The Trails of St. John, Sunday afternoon. The new trail system includes the “New Jerusalem Path,” which intersects with the historic “Old Jerusalem Path.”
The trails are open daily from dawn to dusk and include informational kiosks.
St. John in the Wilderness is one of the oldest churches in the mountains and is on the National Register of Historic Sites. It was built in 1827 as a chapel for Charles and Susan Baring's summer home.
