CARROLLTON, Virginia — Virginia State police are investigating a single-vehicle tractor-trailer crash that knocked power out to parts of the James River Bridge.

State police said on Monday around 8:13 p.m., they were called to southbound Route 17 just north of the Raceway gas station in Isle of Wight County.

Deputies said the driver of the tractor-trailer ran off the road into a marsh area, striking several poles and lines and causing power outages to the area around the JRB and the surrounding Carrollton area.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is working with the Isle of Wight Sheriff's Office in closing the Newport News side of the JRB to traffic. State police do not have an estimated reopening time.
