THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – An NYPD sergeant accused of killing a suspect on a scooter in a botched drug arrest in the Bronx will be back in court on Tuesday.

The family and supporters of 30-year-old Eric Duprey have also vowed to rally at Bronx Supreme Court, continuing their campaign of pressure to see suspended NYPD Sgt. Erik Duran convicted.

Duran was released on $150,000 bail after being arrested and charged in the case from August 2023. The sergeant is accused of throwing a 40-pound cooler at Duprey, who was fleeing arrest, according to authorities.

Police said Duprey fell to the ground, hit his head and died. The medical examiner deemed his death a homicide.

Duran has been suspended from the NYPD without pay and charged with manslaughter. He faces 25 years in prison if convicted.
