MINNEHAHA COUNTY, S.D. (KELO) — For the first time, South Dakota taxpayers are seeing a site plan for the proposed new men's prison in northeast Sioux Falls.

The members of South Dakota's House and Senate are scheduled to soon vote on buying the land and building a new prison at the location along Benson Road near the intersection of Interstates 90 and 229. The $650 million project with about 1,500 beds is intended to last 100 years.

The office of South Dakota Gov. Larry Rhoden has also released a graphic which compares South Dakota's plans with those of Nebraska. The Rushmore State's neighbor to the south has agreed on a construction bid for $313 million for a proposed prison.
