OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Local and state Nebraska officials are responding to the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk as he was speaking at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

Rep. Don Bacon said he was deeply saddened Kirk’s shooting.

Kirk visited Omaha April 9, 2024 . He spoke at the Lord of Hosts Church while wearing a Huskers shirt.

At the time, he urged Gov. Jim Pillen to call for a special session before the 2024 general election to change Nebraska’s electoral votes to a winner-take-all system.

Pillen condemned political violence of any kind and said the attack was senseless and un-American.

U.S. Sen. Pete Ricketts also said the political violence is anti-American.
