INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Construction is still almost a year away for the widening of Old Monroe Road in Union County.
At Tuesday’s Indian Trail Town Council meeting, Councilmember Clarence Alsobrooks presented the latest timeline for the 6.5-mile N.C. Department of Transportation project. The two-lane road that begins as East John Street in Mecklenburg County will be widened to four lanes with a median.
The $197 million project is separated into five segments between downtown Matthews and the Sun Valley area of Indian Trail. Trees have been cleared for the widening for over a year, and construction is underway for the expanded I-485 interchange.
Alsobrooks only presented on the three segments in Union County.
