UPDATE

WORK is under way to clean up a regional tip, which has been closed since earlier this month.

Boggabri Transfer Station was closed after 25 cubic metres of asbestos was illegally dumped there, Narrabri Shire Mayor Darrell Tiemens said.

Contractors began the clean-up on Wednesday, September 17, and the council is aiming to re-open the facility on Monday, September 22, pending successful completion of the clean-up works.

EARLIER

The Aerodrome Road tip has been closed since Wednesday, September 3.

That was when a Council worker found the materials containing asbestos had been illegally dumped there.

A hygienist was immediately called in to assess and advise on clean-up measures.
