SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Red Sox Foundation has awarded $750,000 in its inaugural Special Recognition Award to the Pedro Martinez Foundation and Square One, supporting educational and recreational opportunities for youth.

The Special Recognition Award, announced Friday by the Red Sox Foundation, aims to support large-scale, high-impact community investments. The Pedro Martinez Foundation will use its portion of the funds to build a library in Manoguayabo, Dominican Republic, while Square One will construct an outdoor learning center in Springfield.
