Linebacker Monty Rice signed with the Detroit Lions’ practice squad on Tuesday. He’ll be eligible to play on Sunday, when the Lions take on the Chicago Bears.

Each NFL team can elevate two players from its practice squad to active status for every game. Detroit elevated Rice with linebacker Trevor Nowaske set to miss Sunday’s game because of an elbow injury.

A third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and a veteran of 38 NFL games, the former James Clemens High School standout was released by the New England Patriots at the end of the preseason.
