A Central Florida man drowned in Polk County while trying to save his boat on Sunday, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The agency identified Pierre Richard Flourde, 52, of Frostproof, as the drowning victim.
Sheriff Grady Judd posted an update on X detailing the search for Flourde on Lake Clinch. Judd said the man had been with his family when he beached his boat.
Flourde noticed the boat was drifting out into the water and swam to save it, Judd said. Flourde then went under the water, and a friend unsuccessfully tried to save him.
Polk Fire & Rescue responded immediately and were able to find him “within minutes,” Judd said.
First responders pronounced him dead on the scene. Originally Published: September 15, 2025 at 11:32 AM EDT
